Technology allows student to be at dialysis and in class at the same time
AVON LAKE–Brandon Miller can be in two places at the same time.
This fourth grader at Erieview Elementary School in Avon Lake needs dialysis three school days a week, but he still participates in class.
He can hear and see his class through a laptop computer, webcam and internet hookup. He can answer questions even call on students from his bed at the Cleveland Clinic.
His teacher researched how he could be part of the class, when she learned he would be absent part of three school days. A child in England she found on the internet participates in class the same way.
“I knew something special was required, just didn’t know how special,” says Teacher Laura Smith.
